The Overberg BioRegion coordinates activity through multiple BioHubs, each holding its own identity, founding cohort, services portfolio, and coordination surface. A BioHub is the unit of local organization within the BioConomy framework.

Active BioHubs

  • Valley of Grace: Founding BioHub, anchored at Genadendal in Ward 2 of Theewaterskloof Municipality. Finance-and-Governance-first entry into the global BioHub field. Full wiki

Anticipated BioHubs

  • Volmoed: Anticipated coordination body in the Volmoed area.
  • Witsand: Anticipated coordination body at the Breede estuary.

Federation

The Overberg BioHubs are planned as a federation along the region’s rivers [MS]. Each BioHub carries the Bioregional Development Organization functions for its own reach: the Valley of Grace for the Riviersonderend between the Theewaterskloof Dam and Swellendam, with BioHubs upstream of the dam and downstream of Swellendam holding their own reaches. The Overberg Charter will record the arrangement and the protocols between the BioHubs.

BioHub Formation

New BioHubs form through the BioHub Identity Template, a three-prompt sequence producing an Identity Statement, Field and Lineage Positioning, and Founding Compact. Contact the Valley of Grace BioHub for coordination on forming a new BioHub within the Overberg.
