BioHubs

BioHubs are place-based coordination entities that organise landscape-scale ecological, economic, and governance activity within a BioRegion. Each BioHub holds its own identity, founding cohort, services portfolio, and coordination surface. Each BioRegion holds its own atlas, charter, and policy frameworks, shared across the BioHubs within it.

This site is the operational directory for every BioHub and BioRegion that has begun formalizing its coordination through the BioConomy framework. The BioConomy wiki documents the concepts, frameworks, and research that underpin the field. This site documents the practitioners.

The Global Field

The BioHub model enters a field already populated by convergent practice. The Metabolic Institute’s survey counts 152 BioHub-adjacent initiatives globally. Michel Bauwens’s Archipelago of Regenerative Projects maps a related set. Benjamin Life’s emerging discipline of bioregional economics provides the theoretical grounding. What distinguishes a BioHub registered here is that its coordination infrastructure is legible to peer BioHubs and to the financial instruments designed to serve them.

New BioHubs and BioRegions are added to this directory as they begin formalizing through the BioConomy framework. Each receives its own section of this site with a standard structure: identity, coordination surface, services, data, journal, and sources.

Operating Vocabulary

The shared operating vocabulary across all BioHubs is the TIME framework (Tribes, Institutions, Markets, Emergent). The financial architecture draws on the Emancipation Architecture and the Grassroots Economics commitment pooling protocol. The BioConomy wiki holds the full glossary and conceptual reference.
